Twining Peak Skiing 5/27/2013
By Monday of Memorial Day weekend, my partners Hans Flinch, Christina Vela, and Bart Rose had already had two big days by skiing La Plata on Saturday and Mt. Hope on Sunday. So, we elected to take a relatively easy day and go after some of the short access stuff off Indpendence Pass proper. We started from the Linkins Trailhead and skinned north into the headwaters of the Roaring Fork River. Once in the basin, we split ways; Vela and Bart climbed and skied the southeast face of Geissler Mountain West, and Hans and I headed towards 13,711' Twining Peak, also called "Blue" by local skiers. Hans was especially feeling the effects of two hard ski days, so in the interest of skiing the following day, soon chose to descend back to the base of the face, take a nap, and watch me ski.
