Grizzly Peak (Hourglass Couloir) Skiing 6/9/2011

I have wanted to ski the steep, broken, complex north face of Grizzly Peak for at least two years now. With a stellar spring snowpack and good stability, I was able to motivate Charles and Jordan to join me.

Our journey started with dropping a car at the bottom of the Grizzly Gulch 4WD road. Just over a week earlier, Mike and I snowmobiled to the same spot. The snow is melted now. This view of Torreys' northeast face (the Emperor) is a fine way to begin the morning.
Then we drove to the top of Loveland Pass, where your starting elevation is 12,000'. To reach the summit of Grizzly is a couple miles of hiking and some ups and downs in elevation to eventually reach the 13,427' summit. This photo is of Marjorie Bowl near A-Basin.

As we reach the summit of "Cupid", a ranked thirteener at 13,117', our destination comes into view. Our most recent photo of this face was from just over a month prior, so we were excited to find that our intended line was still looking super filled in.

We were able to stay on our skis nearly continuously back to our car. It did require a bit of dirtskiing though.
