Mt. Democrat Skiing 5/19/2009
Well, the two weeks of no dangerous activities following my concussion had ended, so it was time to go skiing again!
A variety of minor misadventures including us being slow, underestimating the travel time, some kid in a low-clearance FWD hatchback trying to drive through 12" snowbanks and getting stuck, and not figuring out how to adjust tele bindings conspired against us and forced a later start than we had planned. The goal for the day was the southeast face of Mt. Democrat (14,148'). This face is not terribly steep, but it's steep enough, pretty long, aesthetic, and easy to get to. By 8:40am we were finally skinning (we were able to drive within 1/4-1/2mi of the summer trailhead).
The rest, as they say is history.
(And told via the captions of the photos.)
Hopefully more photos to come from Brian.
