Sawteeth Mountain 7/29/2006

Gill brook from the road to Lower Ausable Lake. This part of the hike was over land privately owned by the Ausable Club, which is basically a glorified country club. The destination of the day was Sawteeth Mountain (4,100'), the 35th highest peak in New York state.

The Ausable Club has kept their land pristine, not modifying it in any way.

Indian Head looks, well, like an Indian's head. All of the cliffs on Ausable Club land are closed to climbers (mainly because they don't want the obnoxious climbers disturbing their upper class clientle).

At Lower Ausable Lake, you're presented with a choice. I took the scenic route.

This is where the Ausable Club keeps their yachts... err, canoes. Pretty damn huge house for a bunch of canoes. If you're rich enough to enjoy the Ausable Club, you can take a bus here (walking is apparently too difficult).

A little piece of Eden. The one big thing New York has that Colorado doesn't is extremely lush greenery.

The Pyramid-Gothics trail, which I descended, passes this gorgeous waterfall, Rainbow Falls.

Sunday my feet hurt like hell from the Sawteeth hike the day before, so I just made a short trip to Marcy Dam. Mt. Colden is the peak with the bare rock near the center.
