Mt. Silverheels Hiking 9/20/08
Unfortunately, my mom had a sprained ankle, but my dad was excited to go for a hike. We chose Mt. Silverheels, once of the most prominent yet overlooked peaks in central Colorado. It is one of the most visible peaks in the area... yet, as evidenced by the lack of footprints, one of the most rarely climbed. The hike was 7 miles round trip and gained 2,974 feet to reach the 13,822' summit via the South Ridge. The aspens were just beginning to turn gold, which made the great scenery even better.
