Maroon Bells Wilderness Hiking 6/9/2007

Mt. Sopris was just visible from the trailhead.

The distant snowcapped peaks of the Sawatch Range.

There were great views of Mt. Sopris along this section of the trail.

The first Thomas Lake, nestled right at the base of Sopris. It had a surprisingly alpine feel for its relatively low elevation (~10,500').

Maggie opted to stay behind as her boots were beginning to hurt, but Anna and I continued up to the second lake.

Snow was still hiding in the trees on the north exposures.

If you look closely, the Elk Range is just barely visible in the background.
